Stroke advice when the ambulance is on its way

If someone you’re with has suspected stroke symptoms and you’ve called 999, what should you do whilst waiting for an ambulance?

James Mankletow, one of our paramedics and clinical team educators, provides you with the key things to do, and not do, for the person with stroke symptoms whilst you’re waiting for the ambulance to arrive.

He also tells you what additional key information it will be useful to have to hand about the patient as the ambulance crew will ask you for this on arrival as part of their initial assessment.

Understandably, a stroke emergency can be a stressful and frightening time, not just for the patient but for the friends, family members, work colleagues or members of the public they’re with. By watching this video in a calmer, relaxed setting now it will hopefully mean you’re able to put this advice into practice when needed in an emergency.
