We are excited to announce that the trust has completed the necessary steps to provide data to the Thames Valley and Surrey Secure Data Environment (TVS SDE). With the connection between the SDE and SCAS now in place, ambulance data will be processed through the SDE, and the data will be available for approved researchers to request access to specified de-identified data sets, to support approved projects within a secure NHS environment.

Craig Ellis, chief digital and information officer at SCAS and SRO for the TVS SDE, said: “This is a really positive data transformation story, and the digital, data and clinical teams in SCAS have worked hard alongside our colleagues in OUH to enable the data flow. We looking forward to now moving forward gaining two-way research into this critical data set enabling valuable insight for our patient care.”

“By enabling secure, ethical access to this data through the TVS SDE, we are significantly expanding the opportunities for high‑quality research into urgent and emergency care. This will support researchers to generate evidence that improves clinical decision‑making, informs system planning, and ultimately delivers better outcomes for patients.”

Ben Attwood, chief digital and information officer at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUH), and senior responsible officer (SRO) for the TVS SDE, said: “The inclusion of ambulance service data within the TVS SDE is an exciting development for health and care research across our region. Ambulance data captures the earliest and often most critical points in a patient’s journey, offering researchers valuable insights that are rarely available at scale.”
