We were delighted to welcome Grahame Bowles and his wife, Angela, to Stoke Mandeville Resource Centre last month to meet up with Dais Linton and Wiktor Konecki, from Elite EMS, and paramedic team leader, David Worsfield.
Dais, Wiktor and David were part of the team that responded to Grahame’s 999 call in June this year when he was out on a bike ride on his birthday and began to feel unwell.
Having cycled from his home in Aylesbury, Grahame was halfway up Longdown Hill, near Princes Risborough, but despite being on an e-bike had found the ascent much more challenging than normal. Halfway up, he stopped at Pulpit Hill Car Park and, with chest pains starting, he called 999.
Dais and Linton were the nearest available ambulance and arrived with Grahame. Shortly after they got him into the ambulance he went into cardiac arrest. A second SCAS ambulance crew were despatched, along with David, and on arrival found that Dais and Wiktor had managed to restart Grahame’s heart and he was awake and responsive.
The Thames Valley Air Ambulance critical response vehicle arrived to accompany Grahame to hospital.
A camera operator was out with the TVAA team and this incredible story featured in episode 2 of the latest series of Ambulance Code Red on the Freeview channel, 5 Star, last week.
You can watch it on catch-up here: 5 – Ambulance: Code Red – Season 4 – Episode 2 / Episode 2
Congratulations to the whole team who responded to this emergency.
