Shabbington Village Hall was filled with energy and enthusiasm on 19 March as local residents came together for an engaging evening of community connection and lifesaving training.
The session began with an introduction from Huw Pateman, Public Governor, who shared insights into his role and the wider work within the community. This set the scene for a collaborative and informative evening, highlighting the importance of working together to support local health and wellbeing.
Following this, Tracy Mould, Community and Engagement Training Officer, led an interactive cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and defibrillator training session, supported by Huw, Sue Maddex, Shabbington’s Community First Responder (CFR) and Emma Shakleton, a CFR from nearby Ickford. Their combined experience and approachable style created a relaxed environment where everyone felt encouraged to take part.
With 25 residents in attendance, the response from the community was overwhelmingly positive. Participants were not only enthusiastic but clearly eager to learn essential lifesaving skills. Many took the opportunity to practise CPR and gain confidence in using a defibrillator, skills that could one day make a vital difference in an emergency.
The evening proved to be both productive and inspiring. Beyond the practical training, it was a valuable opportunity to raise awareness of the role of SCAS within the community and strengthen local connections.
The event was organised by SCAS Charity, whose ongoing support enables vital community training and engagement activities like this to take place. The dedication of SCAS volunteers, including Community First Responders, plays a crucial role in strengthening community resilience and helping to save lives across the region.
Events like this demonstrate the power of community engagement, bringing people together, building confidence, and equipping individuals with the knowledge and skills to help save lives.
