On 26 March 2026, paramedics Jinnie Brereton and Mathew Stanley visited Chalgrove Primary School to meet pupils and staff across all year groups and provide an insight into the work of the ambulance service.
During the visit, the team demonstrated some of the specialist equipment carried on emergency vehicles and explained how it is used to help patients in a wide range of situations. Pupils had the opportunity to ask questions, explore the equipment, and learn more about the important role ambulance staff play within the community.
A variety of topics were discussed throughout the day, including:
- when and how to call for help
- recognising when someone may be unwell
- the use of ambulance equipment
- CPR awareness
- careers within the ambulance service and wider NHS
The visit also provided an opportunity to talk about inclusion, diversity, and the importance of supporting everyone within our communities. Jinnie and Mathew discussed how the ambulance service welcomes people from all backgrounds and is committed to helping anyone in need, regardless of race, sex, identity, or personal circumstances.
The children and staff engaged brilliantly throughout the sessions, showing enthusiasm, curiosity, and thoughtful interest in the ambulance service. The visit was a rewarding experience for everyone involved and highlighted the value of connecting with local schools to inspire future generations and increase awareness of emergency care.
Jinnie and Mathew both hope to continue supporting similar visits in the future and would welcome further opportunities to engage with primary and secondary schools across the community.
