Trevor Vidler and Simon Tidby, Community First Responders, attended Southampton City Council’s Housing Conference on 19 March.
Lepša Stojković, Tenant Participation and Engagement Team Leader said:
“The atmosphere throughout the event was fantastic, and it was especially rewarding to see tenants actively engaging with the wide range of organisations in attendance. Events like this truly highlight the power of partnership and community.”
With around 80 delegates attending and several informative sessions throughout the day, there was plenty for everyone to take in. Trevor and Simon had the opportunity to connect with several attendees who visited their stand.
It was great to see people showing interest in learning vital lifesaving skills. A few attendees took the opportunity to try CPR and practise defibrillator pad placement, while others preferred to observe and ask questions. These conversations were just as valuable, giving Trevor and Simon the chance to raise awareness and build confidence in responding to emergency situations.
They also appreciated the honest and thoughtful feedback from attendees. For some, particularly those with mobility challenges, hands-on CPR can feel daunting. This highlights the importance of continuing to make training accessible, inclusive, and supportive for all members of the community.
Although time was limited and delegates understandably needed a well-earned break after the earlier sessions, Trevor and Simon were delighted to engage with those who stopped by. Every interaction helps spread awareness and could make a real difference in an emergency.
