Project summary
South Central Ambulance Service, alongside the two Air Ambulance services that work within its geographical area (Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance via Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust and Thames Valley Air Ambulance), delivered a research study to improve care for patients sustaining a cardiac arrest. It is called the CABARET Study.
The CABARET study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of a new ‘Bundle of Care’ for out of hospital cardiac arrest. Patient participants were divided into two groups, with one group receiving standard care while the other group received the bundle of care as described below. The objective was to determine whether this approach is effective and can be applied on a larger scale to improve outcomes for patients who experience cardiac arrest outside of a hospital setting.
How are patients selected for this project?
Adult patients suffering cardiac arrest in the community setting, where the cardiac arrest was witnessed, their wishes are to be resuscitated, they are not pregnant, and the cardiac arrest was not caused by trauma (for example an injury).
Closing date
Closed to recruitment by SCAS clinicians.
