On a chilly Thursday evening, Huw Pateman, Public Govenror,  and Tracy Mould, CETO for Buckinghamshire, visited the Aylesbury Women’s Institute to talk about their roles within SCAS and deliver a CPR demonstration.

They received a warm welcome from members, beginning the evening with a cup of tea and a spirited rendition of Jerusalem.

Huw opened by explaining his role as a governor, acting as a link between the Trust and the public, and how people can also get involved by becoming governors themselves. He outlined SCAS services, including 999 and 111 care across Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hampshire and Berkshire, as well as patient transport services in Milton Keynes and Hampshire. He also highlighted community initiatives such as knife crime awareness and road safety education.

Tracy then spoke about the SCAS charity and how it supports Community First Responders, including those in the military. She explained the training volunteers receive, the types of incidents they attend, and the important role they play in supporting frontline ambulance crews.

The evening ended with a practical CPR demonstration, including how to call for help and how to use a defibrillator.

Over a final cup of tea, Huw chatted with members who shared positive experiences of ambulance crews. While many hadn’t realised the full extent of the work done by governors and volunteers, they were grateful for the chance to learn more and to discover how they could get involved themselves.
