Project summary
Genes & Health is a study, looking at how genes influence health and disease. The study is collecting DNA (genetic) samples from adults with a self-identified ethnicity of Bangladeshi, British-Bangladeshi, Pakistani, British-Pakistani. It is a long-term BioResource study, collecting DNA samples and investigating links between genetics and health conditions. The DNA is collected through saliva samples. The study also uses access to medical records to compare the DNA results. Participants will also be invited to submit further samples or take part in other studies as appropriate.
SCAS is supporting this trial by the collection of samples through community events that target appropriate populations. The events, for example, might run at local GP practices and community settings.
The study visit consists of consenting to the study, providing a saliva sample, and completing health related questionnaires. On completion of this first stage of the study, participants may be invited to take part in further research, one example of further linked research, is a mental health study, involving the completion of questionnaires, another example involves submitting a blood sample looking at blood cell biology and genetic variation
