Flippin’ good first aid cover at Olney Pancake Race

SCAS Charity volunteer community first responders (CFRs) were on hand to provide first aid cover at the traditional Olney Pancake Race, held every Shrove Tuesday in the Buckinghamshire market town.

The race can trace its origins back to 1445 and has been run every year since it was revived in 1948. This year’s race was won by Eloise Kramer, her third triumph in total and, according to the rules, she can no longer enter.

Local CFR scheme co-ordinator, Steve, volunteer CFR Catherine, and assistant community engagement and training officer from SCAS, Tracy, were on duty from 8am until early afternoon to provide immediate first aid to any runners or spectators if it was needed.

They also found time to raise awareness of the importance of learning CPR and how to use a defibrillator – vital skills anyone can learn to improve the chances of someone surviving a cardiac arrest – and raising some much needed funds for the SCAS Charity with some fun games.
