On 19 February, Simon Tidby and Gareth Hitchcoe, Community First Responders visited Board in the City, a not for profit board game cafe in Southampton to demonstrate basic life support to children and young people in a warm, welcoming session for local families.

Twelve children took part, ranging in age from just three years old to seventeen. Simon and Gareth made sure everyone felt comfortable learning at their own pace, even offering quiet one-to-one support for those who felt overwhelmed practising in front of others. Two children chose this option and were able to build their confidence in a calmer setting.

Parents joined in too, with three having a go alongside their children while others watched and encouraged. In total, 15 certificates were awarded, celebrating the effort and enthusiasm shown throughout the session.

The event also welcomed two brand new families who had never visited the café before — and who said they would love to return.

It was a friendly and supportive day, full of learning, encouragement, and growing confidence for everyone involved.
