Building Confidence and Lifesaving Skills with Portsmouth Carers

We were delighted to deliver a Community Basic Life Support training session for Portsmouth Carers—bringing together a small but highly engaged group of seven carers for an interactive and impactful experience.

From the outset, the session created a welcoming and supportive environment where participants felt comfortable learning, asking questions, and getting involved. The smaller group size allowed for a more personal approach, giving everyone the opportunity to take part in hands-on practice and build confidence at their own pace.

The feedback speaks for itself. Carers described the session as “great,” “very informative,” and “engaging,” with many highlighting how valuable it was to refresh existing knowledge while learning new skills. For several participants, the chance to practise CPR and first aid techniques in a safe setting made a real difference, helping them feel more prepared to respond in an emergency.

One attendee shared that the session was “excellent” and “can’t be praised highly enough,” while others emphasised how “useful” and “confidence-building” the training was. The hands-on element was a clear highlight, with participants appreciating the opportunity to “have a go” and gain practical experience.

We were also incredibly grateful for the kind words about our trainers, who were described as “brilliant” and instrumental in creating an engaging and supportive learning environment.

It was fantastic to hear that Portsmouth Carers found the session so valuable and would welcome future opportunities to run it again. We look forward to continuing to work together to equip carers with essential lifesaving skills and the confidence to use them when it matters most.

A big thank you to Clive Tillbrook and Gary Cross, Community First Responders,  who attended and contributed to such a positive and rewarding session.
