South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SCAS) has been recognised nationally for its information governance, digital, IT and cyber security work.
The trust won the NHS England Award at the National Cyber Awards 2026, recognising our work to strengthen information governance, assurance and resilience.
The award was presented at a gala evening at the Royal Lancaster, London, on 28 September 2026, which brought together organisations and leaders from across healthcare, government, policing, defence, critical national infrastructure and industry.
SCAS was the only NHS trust to receive an award at this year’s ceremony, following an independent judging process involving senior leaders and recognised experts from across the public and private sectors.
The award recognised work led by Barbara Sansom, Tina Massey and Anita Lines, supported by colleagues across information governance, digital, IT and cyber security, to develop a coordinated, organisation-wide approach to governance, assurance and resilience.
At the heart of the work was the bringing together of information governance, digital, IT and cyber security teams around the delivery of the Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT) and the Cyber Assessment Framework (CAF).
Through strong leadership, collaboration and sustained effort, SCAS has developed an integrated approach to assurance, governance and continuous improvement, helping to strengthen organisation resilience and support the delivery of safe patient care.
Craig Ellis, chief digital information officer at SCAS, said: “This award is a proud moment for everyone involved. It recognises not just the work of our cyber security team, but the commitment of colleagues across the organisation who have embraced cyber security as a shared responsibility. We are on a journey, and while there is always more to do, this achievement is a testament to our new culture, collaboration and ambition that continues to drive us forward, led by Barbara, Tina and Anita.”
The National Cyber Awards recognise excellence across digital services, information governance, technology and cyber security. The judging panel includes senior representatives and experts from organisations including NHS England, Microsoft, IBM, BAE Systems, Fortinet, Rolls Royce and the National Police Chiefs’ Council.
The recognition provides national independent validation of the progress made by SCAS and the contribution of its information governance, digital, IT and cyber security teams in supporting patients, staff and frontline services.
Tina and Anita received the award on behalf of SCAS at the ceremony from Mark Logsdon, chief information security officer at NHS England.
