More than 3,000 people came along to the Emergency Services Day at Milton Keynes Blue Light Hub on Sunday 6 September, for a packed day of demonstrations, activities and opportunities to meet their local emergency services.
The SCAS presence at the event was managed by Kate Wilson, Paramedic and Team Leader, alongside colleagues and Community First Responders (CFRs), who spent the day meeting visitors and sharing important lifesaving skills.
The CFR team gave visitors the opportunity to learn and practise CPR, with people of all ages getting involved. It was particularly encouraging to see so many children having a go and learning skills that could one day help them save a life.
Visitors were also treated to a programme of emergency services demonstrations throughout the day, including chip pan fire demonstrations, a road traffic collision rescue, a rescue from height and a police demonstration.
Kate said: “It was a brilliant day and fantastic to see so many people from the local community come along. There was a great atmosphere throughout the day, and it was especially lovely to see so many children getting involved and having a go at CPR. A huge thank you to everyone who supported the event and helped make it such a success.”
With warm weather and sunshine throughout the day and a very welcome ice cream van, the event provided a fantastic opportunity for families to meet emergency services teams in a relaxed and engaging environment.
The day was also a fundraising success, raising more than £4,000 for three charities: the Fire Fighters Charity, SCAS Charity and the Curtis Palmer Programme.
