A Community First Responder helped raise awareness of life-saving skills at a community health fair in Landport earlier this year.
Tony Rawlins attended the event at Landport Community Centre on 19 January, organised by Portsmouth University Hospitals, where more than 70 members of the public learned about local healthcare services.
Tony said:
“I was able to educate people on CPR and how to use a defibrillator, as well as help them understand when to call 111 or 999 and what to do in an emergency.”
One attendee was reassured to learn that chest compressions alone can provide effective CPR until help arrives, encouraging her to refresh her first aid skills.
The engagement forms part of a wider programme supported by funding secured through a Community Resilience Grant, aimed at reducing health inequalities in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA).
