Community Engagement: Life-Saving Skills Shared in Oxford

Helen Ramsay, Lead Governor, and Stacey Elliott, Paramedic, recently joined a local community group in Oxford—African Families in the UK (AFiUK)—to share information about their roles, teach basic life support skills, and demonstrate how to use a defibrillator.

The session sparked great interest and engagement from attendees, who asked many thoughtful questions. There was particular enthusiasm for Stacey to return for a follow-up session focusing on CPR for children and babies. The group also expressed interest in having a defibrillator installed at Blackbird Leys Community Centre—an initiative Helen Ramsay has offered to support.

Helen shared her thoughts on the session:
“Everyone who attended absolutely loved it! They really tried hard to learn and so much enjoyed the session!”

It was a meaningful and empowering event that highlighted the importance of community collaboration in promoting health and safety.
