‘Thank you for saving my life’ says Ian

We were delighted to welcome Ian Cooper and Niamh Sheehy to Adderbury Resource Centre on Wednesday, 23 April.

The couple wanted to meet some of the team that helped save Ian’s life when he suffered a cardiac arrest at home on 5 December, 2023. Ian and Niamh chatted with paramedic team leader, John Leese, and paramedic, Rob Marsh, who represented the whole SCAS and HEMS team that responded to Niamh’s 999 call.

Having achieved ROSC at the couple’s home in Banbury, Ian was then taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital where he remained in an induced coma until 20 December. He was finally discharged to continue recovering at home on 29 December having had an ICD fitted. An ICD – or implantable cardioverter defibrillator – is a small, battery powered device that can detect and treat dangerous heart rhythms.

Ian has since been diagnosed with long QT syndrome, a rare heart condition that can cause serious problems with the heart’s rhythm. However, he has fortunately not suffered any further symptoms and has returned full time to work at Banbury Hospital as an electrician, and where Niamh also works as a radiographer.

Since their traumatic experience, the couple have got engaged and bought a new house so they have lots to look forward to and we wish them all the very best for the future.
