Get ready for the ultimate team day out as South Central Ambulance Charity will be hosting its very first Dragon Boat event.
On 23 September at the Wokingham Waterside Centre in Berkshire, South Central Ambulance is looking for 36 crews to compete on the water. The Dragon Boat Race will be a great day out for friends, family, colleagues, community groups and anyone who is up for some paddling fun. The event can also make for a great team building activity or a fun company or social group outing.
Crews must consist of 11 members: 10 paddlers and a drummer. No prior experience is required but all crew members must be over the age of 16. New Wave Events will offer all training, safety equipment and water first aid on the day. Crews will need to pay a registration fee of £275 and a pledge of raise at least £1,100 in sponsorship – or £100 per crew member.
Every crew is guaranteed to participate in at least three races, with the fastest teams progressing to a knockout competition. Crews are also encouraged to come up with a theme for their boat and dress accordingly! There will be an awards ceremony at the end of the day with six awards up for grabs: 1st, 2nd and 3rd fastest along with awards for the Best Dressed Crew, Best Fundraisers and an overall winner.
Cerys Aston, Community Fundraising Officer at South Central Ambulance Charity, said: “With dragon boat racing becoming the fastest growing water sports activity in Britain, we thought it would be a great idea to host a dragon boat race as our main charity event for 2023.
“Our event will provide an amazing opportunity for our supporters, family, friends and colleagues to get together and have some fun, all whilst helping us raise the vital funds that we need to continue making a difference throughout the communities that we serve.
