Lena Samuels

Chair

Born and educated in London, Lena brings extensive health sector experience to her role. She was a non-executive director with University Hospital Southampton with portfolio responsibility for patient safety, international health and equality and diversity. She was a Lay Advisor with Wessex Deanery where she undertook GP recruitment and the assessment of post-graduate doctors in rotation. In addition she sat on the school boards of surgery and emergency medicine. She is undertaking a short-term position as associate non-executive director with IOW NHS Trust.

She started her career as a lecturer in further and higher education, and managed a training centre in London for young people at risk of exclusion. She currently runs a company providing communications and training internationally in leadership, human rights and child protection on behalf of organisations such as the British High Commission, the National Crime Agency, CORAM, Bramshill Policing Advisers, UNICEF and UN Women. In addition, Lena has also been a Governor at Southampton Solent University since February 2017.
